Abstract

Conserving buildings that are out of use for various reasons and that lose their functions are usually made possible by adapting to today’s conditions. Railway buildings which are an important part of the architectural heritage, the change of railway line routes, the progresses in railway technology are out of use due to the fact that existing buildings cannot respond to today’s needs. Buildings remain vulnerable, particularly by the abandonment of the use of station buildings on over-the-rail rail lines. Many buildings were built on railway lines in Turkey. However, only conservation studies related to the stations located in the important centers are being carried out. There is a need for extensive conservation studies, especially for buildings located at the places of the intermediate stations. With this study, it is aimed to develop a new usage proposal for passenger buildings of Babaeski and Kavaklı Railway Stations on the Kırklareli-Büyükmandıra Railway Line, which is out of service, and to be a model for other station buildings in the same situation to be preserved by similar approaches. Within the scope of the study, it was aimed that the passenger buildings should be kept at the minimum level in the restoration practices by being associated with the other railway buildings in the vicinity of the integrated protection approach, so that all the buildings can be kept alive with more effective use.
