People live together to survive. It is the society that forms the coexistence and there are values that hold this society together. Culture is the foremost of these values. Architecture can also be seen as a lifestyle shaped by culture. The dwellings where people spend time and reflect their lives and their surroundings exemplify this situation well. Because human beings change their environment with their cultural codes. These cultural codes do not always remain in the same format. While cultures change over time, the cities affected by them change and develop over time. By shaping the culture of life, cities can be divided as orthogenic and heterogeneous. Main principle of this work is to show how orthogenic and heterogeneous cities gain dimension in architecture; how architectural culture alters in the society, the differences between street applications, street texture, material usage, facade language and space fiction. For this reason, 19th century Eskişehir, with the construction material and built environmental texture of the Odunpazarı houses and its surroundings is compared and contrasted with the city’s 21st century condition, with the construction material and environmental texture of Batıkent, both neighbourhoods of Eskişehir. This review, which is a qualitative research study, utilized the notes obtained from the literature review and field study. In the field study, deductions are made by making observations on the streets in the two regions. In the study, the emerging urban texture is seen by looking at both regions from an upper scale. In the continuation of this phase, the formations of the streets, that form the texture and the dwellings that shape these streets and their effects on the life styles are dealt with. Thus, how the ever-changing city culture evolves is revealed.
