Abstract

The concept of neighborhood has gone through different processes and has gained different meanings since its emergence. In the beginning, it has been expressed as a self-sufficient and residential area where individuals with similar characteristics live together, have strong social relations. However, with the processes of urbanization and the included interest of different disciplines, the concept has gained depth over time. This situation made it difficult to talk about general neighborhood acceptance, but at the same time has created the requirement to understand and protect the neighborhood. Within this scope, in this study, the neighborhood concept was discussed in the context of social resiliency. The requirement to adapt the social resilience concept to the neighborhood is the idea that this endeavor can contribute to the sustainability of the neighborhood and the neighborhood culture by producing spaces that can adapt socially and environmentally to the changing and dynamic processes over time. In this context, the study focused on the concept of social resilient neighborhood as a new concept seeking and the parameters determined for social resiliency were evaluated through Kurtuluş- Feriköy, which was chosen as a case study.
