Abstract

Industrialization and modernization movements affecting the whole world, has become more common with the construction of railways in the UK in 19th century. The railways that were constructed in the Ottoman Empire and the early years of Republic of Turkey in 19th century, were also held by foreign investors from England, Germany, France and Russia. Anatolian railway and buildings shows a diversity by these variable investors. This article focuses on the buildings of Adana railway station which is on the Anatolian railway line in the 19th century on the light of the architectural history. Railway station covers; station (concourse), social facilities, housing and maintenance building. The main railway station in Turkey generally is characterized as an important focal point for the city. North railway station and the building of Adana also carries the distinction of being the major focus of the city. Today it makes an architectural urban sense by constituting the northern front assembly as "Sular Meydanı".
