Abstract

Bodrum Peninsula, its urban and spatial characteristics diminishing with unforeseeble speed by tourism since 1980’s, nowadays looks like a vast construction site. Especially the coastal regions and old settlements are loosing their unique urban pattern and character under the great pressure caused by population growth. Historical houses are getting lesser in proportion within the dense urban pattern. As the subject of this article, Ortakent (Müsgebi, was its previous name), is a typical settlement among others in the peninsula, which presents urban, spatial and structural properties of all house types, still keeping its characteristic properties. The urban pattern of Ortakent presents three zones: coastal zone-yalı, fruit gardens, village center. After recording nearly 60 houses in the village, the information gathered is presented under four groups. 1.Single space houses 2.1.Houses with rooms are various levels 2.2. Houses with Musandra 3. Two Storey Houses 4. Tower House
