Abstract

Color is the psychological product of the act of the subject accompanied by light, interpreted through emotions. Only the light and the eye are not enough for the subject to interpret the color they see. Psychological evaluations occurring in the brain along with physiological data accompany this process. The subject may express some cognitive reactions in case of past psychological trauma. One of these is visual distortion is the optical illusions and the perceptual distortions that may occur in size, color, perspective, and detail. The role of the color in the perception of space which changes due to visual distortion after a psychological trauma is important in terms of revealing the relationship between subject, space, and perception. In this context, this study aims to read the role of color as an element that strengthens the expression of interior architecture-literaturecinema disciplines, through the changes in the space perception of a subject that experiences a traumatic experiment. The change in the space perception that may occur after a psychological trauma is addressed in Boris Vian’s novel titled “L’écume des Jours” and Michel Gondry’s film with the same name. Phenomenological film analysis and literary text analysis are used as the method of the study.
