İstanbul'un Gündelik Yaşamında Kadıköy Çarşıiçi’nin Önemi

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to reflect the urban vitality parameters, and case in an vital urban area, Kadıköy Çarşıiçi, with its own historical continuity, and specifities. From the beginning the area is the center of public life with its all vitality which became the characteristic of Kadıköy’s image. Location of this node is another component of vitality and sustainability; shopping streets located between transportation facilities at the coast and the housing part, used as a shortcut by the pedestrians. Even though today’s metropolis defines itself with shopping malls, shopping area of Kadıköy is still the vital and active place with its shops, bars, cafes and fish market. This highly accessible area for all citizens from different economic groups is a pedestrian area; still keeping the spatial context and the identity elements despite newly constructed malls very close. The first part of the article contains categorization of basic parameters of urban vitality, and second part applies them to Kadikoy Çarşıiçi area.
