Abstract

It is the primary objective of architects and interior architects to design suitable living environments for human beings. This study examines the reflections on interior surfaces, in terms of benefits from appropriate utilization of natural light on interiors. In part one, the topic of light permeability is introduced with respect to definition of transparency, related supporting definitions and its physical, psychological effects. In part two, the concept of transparency in architectural constructions is examined based on historical development. Finally, it is evident that the psychological factors must be also taken into consideration and necessary to control the transparency proportions in buildings, in parallel, the level of illumination.
